Allen, I'm at that exact point now. The manual says not vertical play but states nothing about lateral. When I tighten the nut i either get: 1) no vertical, no lateral, stem is hard to turn or 2) no vertical, small bit of lateral and stem is easy to turn. What's going on here? My kit came with 2 washers that I didn't use. That sound right? The website said nothing on their install about the two extra washers. Will lateral play be extinguished when I get everything back together? It's very small amount.
