I spent many years as a maintenance person in a manufacturing plant. Drilling and tapping holes for bolts to attach almost anything happened almost daily. This whole discussion is very worrisome.
1. Certainly do not force a bolt into a blind hole. You are very close to never getting it out. The threads in a blind hole are the hardest to put in and fix and get right. Frequently you install them by tapping with a regular tap and then finishing with a different tap that will cut the threads closer to the bottom of the hole. (The first pass at thread cutting puts in tapered threads that are gradually cut deeper, so at the bottom, the threads in a blind hole are perfect for wedging a bolt into the material all the way around the bolt.) 2. Socket head cap screws are wonderful most of the time, but you must have a good sharp set of 'T' handles and/or sockets to fit them perfectly. (See EGrider) 3. Get a good set of those ball-ended Allen wrenches and carry just the sizes you need in your tool bag. 4. Is this part, like OEM, guaranteed to be fitting? If not I'd research the bolts, are they just plain too long? 5. Ok, that's all for now. Hope that all goes well. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Nighthawk Motorcycle Lovers!" group.
