Hi Vince, the 700s we have here was leaking all over the place ...drops when parked after riding when left on it's side-stand as well as all over underneath evidently from being leaking and blowing back while riding, I presumed.... However to fix that all we did was get the correct seal, then took a screw and screwed it right into the seal and used claw hammer to grab the head of the screw and jerk the old seal out....drain oil out of the bike before doing so if this should be the problem that is.....all that needed to be done on the 700s was remove the plastic cover and then slide the shift-lever off it's shaft, then proceeded as mentioned above, once the old seal was out we just used a socket to slowly tap in the new seal after lubing it up with some high-temp grease....problem we had was solved instantly after replacing that seal! I'd ordered the actual engine casing cover gasket behind all of that just in case that turned out to be where he leak was coming from...sure glad it wasn't there & was only the shift-lever shafts seal..... Now however I've noticed a slight leak under the valve cover on the right front side...however it's such a slight amount as kiwi mentioned his does also...I just wipe off what little there is after riding the bike... If your bike has a side-stand try leaving it on it for a night after riding....this 700s we have here would leave a very noticeable amount on the floor every time I put it on the side stand and not so much when parked on center stand however it still would leave a few noticeable drops on the floor even on the center stand.... All the best in solving the leak....the folks here are very helpful and there's a lot of knowledgeable ones here that do not mind helping one another out which is I've found to be awesome.... I am most grateful this group's here as I felt alone with such an old bike and no other online resource in the areas of these older Nighthawks anywhere else I know of online....
