I would suggest at a minimum having enough tools to remove both tires, and a
maintenance stand (the bike may not be equipped with one). How many miles are
on the chan and sprocket set? He will experience accelerated chain wear with a
heavily loaded bike. It may make sense to put in a new set before the trip.
Also some sort of throttle lock, and highway pegs so that you can stretch out.
My longest ride was around 350 mile/day but others here regularly go on long
trips. I'm sure they will offer additional advice.

Welcome to the group!

Wow!! Coast to coast on a 250? I guess my first question would be how many
trips has he already taken on the 250?

I installed a sissy bar and backrest on my 250 years ago. (I no longer have the
bike.) The one I installed did NOT have a rack.

Is that the kind of setup you'e looking for?

Hi all!

My husband and I are both owners of a couple of Nighthawk 250s. His is a 2008.

I'm helping him plan a CC trip from San Francisco, Ca to Columbus, Ohio this
spring, solo. Since he hasn't done this before, we're trying our best to
prepare him well for his journey.

The Nighthawk isn't an easy bike to load gear on, from what I can tell. I
admittedly have limited experience, but it seems a bit more challenging, yet
possible. I've seen where people have bought Hondaline backrests that were
designed for the Honda VLX600 Shadow, but am concerned about it being a good
fit. There don't seem to be a lot of people talking about what backrests/sissy
bars they installed on the 250.

Does anyone have experience putting a backrest/sissy bar on the Nighthawk 250?
Also, aside from having his bike well serviced before the journey, if anyone
has any tips, I love hearing about the experiences of others!

Rubber side down!

Sympa
