aaallriight. I have been following the group ever since I got my
nighthawk last fall, I was stoked to find a whole group dedicated to the
bike, but now I can't get the dang thing to start! So I don't have any
space inside to put the bike and it sat outside in cold rainy northwest
weather all winter. Really feeling stupid about that. But here is the
crazy thing, about a month ago I charged up the battery and hit the starter
just to see what would happen, and it started right up! I took it for a
cruse, It wasn't running great but I figured I would just do a good sea
foam treatment and then ride it for the season. There were some other
problems with the horn and the blinkers too. I go back a week or so later
and the thing just refuses to start.

So I start going down the list. First I fix the lights issue, the fuse
box on the front of the bike had cracks in the metal so I replaced that so
now I have lights working. Next, I check my batter water/ acid levels.
The water level is low so I add some de-ionized water in there. Next I
replace the oil (which was pretty bad) and then I tear it apart and get the
carbs out and clean them. I was surprised because the carbs weren't that
bad but in one of them there was a little bit of rust on the inside. so
then after all this the bike makes all the noises like it wants to start
but it just won't do it. When I drain the float bowls what I think is a
good amount of gas comes out from each one. O yes and I put a little to
much oil in and was getting a gurgling but I drained the oil down to the
proper amount. So I took the spark plugs out and the looked fine at first
glance but I don't know really what they are supposed to look like. I am
about to gap them and check that I'm getting a spark off of each one.

If the spark plugs look all good then I am totally stumped and am not sure
where to go from here. Its just so strange because the bike ran after
really being abused and then just wouldn't start again.

Thanks for having this group and I hope to learn enough about the bike to
be able to be of some help in the future.
