I'd clean up the major ones at least. My bike has a few blemishes, but I find it gives me a little more freedom while riding it. If it was 100% showroom clean I'd be nervous about every single bug that hit it and unable to enjoy the ride. You definitely want to salvage those crash guards though, they're pretty rare.
