Ross, as you know, they sell carb kits on the web, usually for around $20 a
set, meaning a Nighthawk will be $80. I don't know how many times you've
cleaned carbs, but I only bought kits the first time. If your bike is
dumping raw gas on the tranny, chances are you'll need needle valves
(available separately) or o-rings (can use the ones in the Harbor Freight
assortments). My most recent PC800 purchase had the RPMs hanging up high
between shifts and a popping noise at idle. I pulled the carbs, took
everything off without "breaking the rack," soaked the bodies for a day in
Yamalube carb dip (safe for rubber parts) and the jets in Berriman Chem
Dip, reassembled, put back on, and synced. Within 24 hours, the thing was
running fine.

My point is that what they usually need the idle and slow jets cleaned out
because those are the smallest passages. Also the vacuum passages (and all
passages) need to be blown out with compressed air. If you were thinking
that "rebuild" = "rebuild kits," personally I would say "save your money."
