They aren't stainless, they're hard chrome plated. You could try to have yours reconditioned, or you can source some replacements.
I've heard good things about a company called "Forking by Frank" http://www.frankmain.qpg.com/ I believe Racetech also offers some in the right size. I plan on replacement when I do my 650 rebuild.
