My 550 was ticking out of the right exhaust (4 into 2). I made a 
stethoscope by putting a punch in one end of some tubing, and the other end 
in my ear, I listened all around the top end to find where the ticking was 
coming from. Nothing! However after I synced the carbs and worked on the 
air/fuel, it went away.
