Hey Mike, I am have this same issue.
Already ordered by new speedo box gear. I read in a different thread that the gear needs to be coupled (aligned) correctly with the metal tabs in the wheel to avoid the plastic gear breaking again. Was this the case with you, or is the alignment not very important?
