Heard that. I was referring to my old "neighborhood" mostly -- generally from San Francisco south to Monterrey. Unbearable traffic there was mostly confined to San Jose, which could be easily bypassed.
But I drove long haul tractor-trailer for a number of years (Oklahoma City-L.A.). My co-driver and I worked out a tactic where we would plan the trip to arrive in Barstow and nap until the wee hours, then sneak into Monticello, drop and hook at 2-3 a.m.and sneak out without disturbing the natives. Eazy peazy traffic that time of day.
