A bad bearing, especially on the brush end can contribute to poor brush life. Run out of the commutator can also contribute to shortened life. Excessive spring load and the quality of the brush can reduce life also. Weak springs or a sticking brush can lead to arcing and burning and ultimately a no start condition. Good luck
