When I replaced mine with a cheap aftermarket one, I installed it backwards.
Not good. Wires started to smoke. May sound funny, but yeah make sure to plug
it in right. At first look, all the tabs seemed the same thickness. But 2 of
them should be thicker.

Subject: Re: [Nighthawk Lovers] Starter Solenoid plug melting

Looks like loose connections are the culprit here. good lesson to learn.
now to get the bike on the road again.

Many uses part stores don't ship overseas. though I found a few that did. I
got a 20$ solenoid from ebay... gonna cross fingers and use grease on every
connection

Thanks all.

Dielectric grease , small dab. Keeps out corrosion you don't see forming. Make
sure all female parts are tight enough to receive male parts with some
resistance. No I'm talking about your honeymoon. Everything electrical that
you can unplug should be tight fight. After having a couple meltdowns like you
show, although in different areas, I use needle nose pliers to tight up female
part to ensure good fit

I don't know. You can order a Honda OEM part. About $50.00 plus shipping.

Understood. is there a product I can add to the connection to ensure no

Is that a cheap fuse holder? If they don't get good connection they arc
constantly and will overheat, It's a point of resistance so it raises the
amperage causing heat.

The solenoid melting has kept my bike off the road for a total of 3 months....
takes forever for things to be shipped here.

I'm buying bulk of it happens again.

Excellent... thank you. good to know it's not a surge from regulator or
alternator. I'll replace and ensure proper fit.

If it happens a third time I'll cry bloody murder though!

Read a horror story of a thread that centered around Chinese aftermarket fuse
holder that looked an awful lot like yours. Are the ones that melted oem or
aftermarket? Your pic looks like one side of fuse got hot and melted. I would
read that as a loose connection on that fuse tang creating higher resistance
which creates the heat. If the connection was loose creating all this heat, it
wouldn't put more amps thru the fuse to blow it, less amps would go thru
because of the loss of amps creating the heat on the melting side. Hope this
makes sense

Hi gang! Just wanted to get your opinion: I took out the melted solenoid plug.
turns out its not the connections in the plug that melted, but the 30amp fuse
attached to the solenoid....

I've attached pics. the fuse links the battery to the bikes electrical.
does that mean the fuse had a bad connection?? Why didn't the fuse blow?

I'm open to opinions to ensure this doesn't happen again
