I agree, but I do like it not to smoke!

bike is still in pretty good condition overall... Except for the bolt I managed
to bust in half getting the cam cover off. But all is well and I have new
gaskets lol

I hear that!! My 700 S is down to the frame for painting.
Did you have any ugly connectors? I did.

diagram after digging around a bit so I'll print it off at work tomorrow and go
over everything with a fine-toothed comb. I keep telling myself that I hate it
but with the new plugs and wires? Omg. I can't wait to get the wiring fixed.
Just up and down the block today was enough of a tease lol

Where the spring is attached to the switch on the rear brake lever, pull down
on the switch, push it back up, see if rear brake light turns off. In other
words, there may be too much tension on the switch. It is controlled by a
thread  on the switch. But too test it simply relax the tension of the spring
by pushing the pin to which the spring is attached, back into the switch and
watch to see if the light goes out. Does that make sense? To test the front
brake lever switch just pull the two wire clips off the brake switch. That
switch is a small squarish  thing under the front brake lever. You can see it
held on be a screw and the two wires are attached to prongs protruding out
towards the middle of your handlebars. You should try the front one first by
detaching those two wires. You may need to pull them off with pliers. I forget
what the connectors are called - spade and something. With those two wires off
see if the brake light goes out. No change, try touching the two wires together
(not reconnected to the switch). No change, now go to the rear brake pedal and
tinker with that as I described above. Graham

Graham... How exactly do I check the brake switch manually?

If brake light is on all the time with ignition on, check brake switch at rear
brake lever and front brake lever. Operate them manually to check
