I recently picked up a 1984 700S in terrible condition. It had been stored in a
shed under a cover for years. Generations of Squirrels had been making their
home in it. In the past I have sanded and cleaned up the exhaust system as best
I could and then painted it with heat resistant paint. Invariably it has faded
or more often, rust has returned. I have had great success using rust
transformative paint as a primer on other areas of the bike like the frame.
My question is, if rust transformative paint is really an acid base that
crystallizes the rust, could I not use it to do the same on the exhausts and
mufflers? After the paint has crystallized the rust, would heat have a negative
affect? Anyone had any experience in this area? Graham
