Hey Kyle, cool replacement trick! my only thought is; although the crystal is 2mm thick, it is a piece of glass, yes? Although a highly remote possibility, a rock kicked up from a tire could hit the crystal square-on and crack it… again, this is probably a one-in-a-million chance, and odds are it will never happen, Still….
A great fix though, and one I’ll remember if my sight lens’s ever need changing… I look at your fix… well done!
