Well yes, platforms and APIs do change over a 25-year period. And not as much 
as you said — I was there at the time. Carbon was always an interim 
compatibility solution, with Cocoa preferred for new apps. And Java was only 
promoted before 10.0 even shipped — in reality it was too slow and memory 
hungry. The reality is you could write apps in Obj-C in 1996 and you still can 
today.
