I saw this thread a week ago and have set mold as the default for my Gentoo box
now. Note that mold does not work with glibc and the Linux kernel, see
<https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Mold>
Actually mold seems to generate smaller executables, maybe by 2%, for
Gentoo-LTO.
For your ./build_all.sh: Note that this command is generally only needed for
the first fresh install. Updates can be done with
cd Nim
git pull
./koch boot -d:release
./koch tools
Run
And that takes only a few seconds. That update procedure is a bit hidden in the
documentation, but I assume devs know it.
For Nim app builds, I have seen no benefit of mold. My sdt app takes now 25
seconds with or without mold, with recent devel compiler. I think one year ago
it was only 12 seconds. This proves again the observation that software is
always becoming slower.
