standalone with strings

Is it possible to create a standalone project that uses string operations like 
concatenation? I am trying to link nim to a unikernel (Ultibo) on the raspberry 
pi which has more resources (especially 1GB memory) than a microcontroller but 
in this case is being used like an embedded system Thanks, Mark.
