To clarify some apparent misconceptions...
iPhoto, like NisusWriter, (I had to get that in to stay "on topic")
is an application that is not part of any operating system
installation. If iPhoto was on your machine before the Tiger
update, it is because it was a part of the application bundle that
came with the computer.
I was well aware of this.
Installing Tiger would not have removed iPhoto (or NisusWriter)
unless a "disk wipe" preceded the installation. If that were the
case, then the restoration of iPhoto would be analogous to the
restoration of any other application that needed to be reinstalled.
That is the case.
The iPhoto installer would be found on the install (or restore)
disks that originally shipped with the computer. Depending upon
which particular set of disks came with your Mac, it's either in a
folder labeled something like "Optional Software", or is accessible
from an optional install menu when booting from the main install
disk. If you can't find it easily, grab "Pacifist" from
VersionTracker and use it to scan the install disks that came with
your computer to isolate the iPhoto installer. After it's been
located and installed, a quick trip to Software Update will bring
it up to the the latest incantation for the particular version that
was installed.
Yes, you are quite right.
If iPhoto 2 was installed, the latest available update is iPhoto
2.0.1. If the iLife bundle was originally installed, then you'd be
looking for iPhoto 4.
I was wondering whether iPhoto 2.0.1 would fit well with Tiger.
According to Dough Browne it's a bit slow, so I ponder what to do.
Many thanks for help.

Hi jem,
Gee, that's hard. I always thought that iPhoto came with the
basic installation but the only reference I can fin is on my .Mac
account where it says iLife [an extra] provides iPhoto 5, iMovie
HD, iDVD 5, GarageBand 2 and iTunes 4.7. These ar out of date.
iTunes is certainly free but not sure about the others.
So, go to <http://www.apple.com/ilife/iphoto/> which seems to
confirm it is part of iLife and therefore costs. Yes, there is a
BuyNow button. USD79.00
This is iPhoto 5 and has much more to offer.

I finally decided to give Tiger (10.4.2) a try, and I find
iPhoto.app has disappeared from the standard installation. Is now
the only way to keep it to buy iPhoto 4x?
Thanks for assistance, and apologies for OT.
