Haven't seen the articles themselves, but I suspect that the problem could also be solved by rebuilding one's desktop...
For the uninitiated...
- restart your Mac
- press the Apple and option keys and keep them pressed until you receive an invitation to rebuild your desktop...
- click accept key (I think it's called that in English, I'm running a Dutch system 9.2) and your Mac will restore links between documents and programmes so that icons reappear where they were missing... etc...
Also a handy tip if the programmes you use have been playing up or you have an increased number of crashes on your system

I am a new subscriber to this list. I visited the searchable archive of this list's posting. I noticed some articles about stationery icon blank.
