We will have an easy-to-use word processor with strong search and replace options. However, I hope they manage to implement user-defined paragraph and character styles for NW Express. Otherwise, it will be useless for any formatted document that is more than one or two pages long.

We have just been having a discussion on the PageMakr list about the number of people who use two returns at the end of paragraphs instead of the fancy styling options available in a WP. In the past, we have all groaned about other multiple usages, five or six spaces instead of a tab, and so on.

It is reminiscent of the way people use telephones. We have all sorts of marvellous techinical innovations available, but the reality is that the original phones succeeded because all you had to do was pick them up and talk, and that is about all most people still want from their phone. Hence, I think Dave is right when he talks about the difference between everyone (out there) and the users on this list.

For much of my work, that requires MS Word compatibility, the current feature set is enough, provided I can use styles to format documents consistently.

Likewise. One thing the current process is going to do, though, is allow the engineers to make sure they have a rock solid base to build on as they steam into the future with us all surfing in the wake.

I would assume the "rock solid base" will include final sorting of the language stuff. After that, I would see NWEx going forward at increasing speed, making the surfing all the more exciting.

What is meant by the remark that Ex doesn't/won't have macro capability? I thought it did with AS and Perl
