Greetings

I mentioned that I had been playing around with NW Ex to see if paragraph styles could
be created in a usable fashion.

My best solution to date is to create several lines of text, each formatted separately
with details of Line wraps and indents. [To see, double click on the left edge Tab
indicators.]

The dialog "Edit Line Wraps and Indent" appears with fields for -
    First line Indent
    Head line Indent
    Tail line indent.

Then, for each paragraph, set up its tabs, the Font name and size, Alignment, etc.
with some sort of coding for the settings/style for the paragraph.

Here is a sample of one method, but of course you will not see this when it arrives as
an email document. am typing this in NW Ex to drag over a Nisus Email icon, so it
appears correctly here.

============  start  ========

HMain-central
HeadTopic1-i0
Body1-i0-w0-bef0-aft2 = Body text for first paragraph. Font as typed.
Body2-i4-w0-bef2-aft2 = Body text for subsequent paragraphs. Font as typed.
HList-centred-bef6-aft4
List-i0-t8-t13-bef0-aft3 = List with tabs at 8 cm, 13 cm

HM = Major Heading central on page.
HeadTopic1-i0 = Topic heading - zero indent. Font as typed
Body1-i0-w0-bef0-aft2 First paragraph after a Topic heading. The text has indent of 0
mm so wraps to left edge. Space before = 0 pt; space after =2 pt. The right edge is
set to wrap close to margin but not justified. Font is Palatino, or as typed.
Body2-i4-w0-bef2-aft2 Second body paragraph. First line of text is indented about 4 mm
from left edge and wraps on subsequent lines at left margin. Space before = 2 pt;
space after = 2 pt. Right side wraps at right margin. Font is Palatino, or as typed.
HList-centred-bef6-aft4 - Heading for a list.
List-i0-t8-t13-bef0-aft3 Middle column text Right column text.
Next line, must be typed And here too Also, but then Return
HeadTopic1-i0   [copy/pasted from above]

=============  end   ===========

The major drawback of this method is that it is very difficult to work out where the
style of one paragraph ends and the next will begin, if they are different. Nisus
Writer Classic also had a problem here. Text formatting was connected to the Return
character of the preceding paragraph, if I remember rightly.

With NW Express, paragraph formatting seems to start at the beginning of the first
line of the each. This means that, to change to a new Style, you have to click the
insertion pointer as far left as possible and then paste in some copied, or dragged,
Styled-text from any other paragraph which has the new style you want. Typing after a
Return copies the paragraph style. It does not seem to matter how little formatted
text is copied; all its attributes are transferred.

Anyone interested in the original file with the formatting used as the example, please
write off-line. It's not a big file but is in NW Ex beta. Any improvements are welcome.
