Well, we still use mkfontscale (which is claimed to obsolete ttmkfdir). Even 
with
ttmkfdir we had problems with, for example, xfontsel not seeing the TrueType 
fonts.

Programs using Xft allow specifying fonts as "xft:Font name:pixelsize=12" 
anyway.
