that patch is rather large (26KB). I don't know much about dictd, so
please bear with me if this is a stupid question, but why does this
python script have to be checked into Nixpkgs? Can it not be generated
or retrieved via HTTP somehow?

It seems to me like this kind of thing ought to be applied upstream, so
that everyone benefits from it, not just users of NixOS.
