Sounds great.
I understand the need to combine changes that will trigger rebuilds of
half the packages, but these cycles don't need to be > 2 weeks apart.

We already have several big hash-changing updates there, so I think we can afford it.

Real upgrades that might break stuff or need user intervention are
something different of course, but once we have "stable", the need for
long-running feature branches declines further I think.
