I've tested this issue in Gnome3 and XMonad (without a DE) with the same
results - suspending to mem (manually with "sudo rtcwake -m mem -s 20" in
Gnome as closing the laptop lid appears to only put the computer in standby
mode - an explanation for its uncharacteristically quick resume time when
opening the laptop lid and by closing the laptop lid in XMonad) and waking
the device either by waiting for the time set by rtcwake or opening the
laptop lid causes the laptop screen's backlight to turn off (changing the
brightness has no effect) but any attached displays are unaffected (they
turn back on at the previously set brightness). Has anyone else had this
issue?
