Just a reminder that we will be meeting at 2pm this Thursday Sept 30 (in HH 321, our usual place). Jason will discuss a number of measures of text similarity that he has been studying (you can see the exact measures, references, etc. in an earlier note to the mailing list.
We will have a meeting with Jill Burstein on Monday Oct 4. Scheduling is a bit complicated, but I am thinking to have it from 9:30-11. This might mean that Prath would join us late, but I don't see any other good commonly available times. Please let me know if there are any other conflicts that I might have forgotten about or not accounted for. My plan for this meeting would be for Jason, Prath, and Anagha to present presentations similar to those they did for Peter WH, with a few changes made in those that I will discuss with each of them individually. (For example, Prath may do a live demo, Jason may add a few examples, Anagha may have a few more results, etc.) I am considering still having a group meeting on Thursday Oct 7 as well. Topic to be announced. FYI, I will be out of town on Thursday Oct 14 and Friday Oct 15, so we won't have a meeting Thu Oct 14. I will be at Northern Illinois University to give a talk there to their Cognitive Science seminar (I think that's the group I'm talking to at least. :) In yet another example of how small the world is, it turns out the Peter Wiemer-Hastings' wife Katja is on the faculty at Northern Illinois and will likely be at my talk. She's a psychologist and has done some joint work with Peter... http://www3.niu.edu/~tj0kwh1/ BTW, Northern Illinois is in the city of Dekalb, which is apparently 70 miles or so from downtown Chicago (where DePaul is located). So they live about midway between the two places, which is actually not an uncommon situation for professional couples in large cities.
