I may have mentioned this to some of you, but here's an official blurb regarding the best paper award given at ACL-2004.
=================================================================== :: 3.- Best Paper Award =================================================================== The best paper prize was awarded to Diana McCarthy, Rob Koeling, Julie Weeds, & John Carroll for their paper "Finding Predominant Word Senses in Untagged Text". In this paper they develop a method for selecting the predominant sense of a word from a corpus without sense annotations, using unsupervised thesaurus extraction techniques. The paper was rated highly by the reviewers and PC on quality and innovativeness, and was selected also because it combines two important topics in our field: unsupervised learning and robust semantic analysis. =================================================================== This paper uses WordNet::Similarity quite a bit, and that fact is clear in the paper (which is very nice). Anyway, despite the connection to WordNet::Similarity this is really an excellent paper, and I strongly encourage all of us to read this over. I'm sure we'll discuss it at some point in the spring. http://acl.ldc.upenn.edu/acl2004/main/pdf/95_pdf_2-col.pdf @inproceedings{mccarthy-EtAl:2004:ACL, author = {McCarthy, Diana and Koeling, Rob and Weeds, Julie and Carroll, John}, title = {Finding Predominant Word Senses in Untagged Text}, booktitle = {Proceedings of the 42nd Meeting of the Association for Computational Linguistics (ACL'04), Main Volume}, year = 2004, month = {July}, address = {Barcelona, Spain}, pages = {279--286} } ------------------------ Yahoo!
