There are relatively few conferences in South America, so I thought I
should do my part to promote this one. One of the organizers (John
Atkinson) is an NLP person, so they are interested in our general area.

***** PRELIMINARY CALL FOR PAPERS SCCC 2005

XXV International Conference of the Chilean Computer Science Society

7-11 November 2005, Valdivia, Chile
http://jcc2005.inf.uach.cl/

The International Conference of the Chilean Computer Science Society
is one of the oldest and most important computer science conferences
in Latin America. It has one of the highest-quality technical levels
among conferences in the region. Since its beginning, 25 years ago,
it provides an international forum for presenting recent results in
computer science research. Proceedings are published by IEEE-CS Press,
and authors are invited to submit an extended abstract in English,
of eight to ten pages. The deadline for electronic submission
to [EMAIL PROTECTED] is June 6, 2005.

Paper presentations and invited talks are in English.

The conference will be held in Valdivia, a beautiful city located in
the south of Chile, and will be hosted by Universidad Austral de Chile.

This year the SCCC'05 Conference is organized in three tracks:

* Parallel and Distributed Systems (algorithms, applications,
architectures, software tools, experiments, models of computing,
distributed objects and software, web and internet, grid and
cluster Computing, scientific computing, performance evaluation,
  high performance computing, Networks, I/O).

* Databases (active databases, complexity and performance evaluation,
data integration, data mining and knowledge discovery, data models,
data stream management, data warehousing and OLAP, databases and
information retrieval, deductive databases and knowledge bases,
distributed databases, information processing on the web, logic in
databases, metadata management, mobile databases, multimedia
databases, object-oriented databases, peer-to-peer data management,
physical design, probabilistic databases, query languages, query
optimization, real-time databases, scientific and statistical
databases, security and privacy, spatial databases, temporal
databases, transaction management, web services, XML and
  semistructured data).

* Artificial Intelligence (knowledge representation, machine learning,
autonomous agents, search and planning, robotics and machine perception,
expert systems, theorem proving, common-sense reasoning, probabilistic
inference, intelligent tutoring systems, constraint satisfaction,
automated diagnosis, data mining, natural language processing, neural
networks, reinforcement learning, and cognitive modeling).

Papers presenting original research on practical and theorical aspects
related to the three tracks and combinations are being sought.

The SCCC conference is part of the Chilean Computing Week 2005, which
also includes two national congresses: one on CS Higher Education, and
another on Computer Science aimed at presenting research work in progress
with papers and presentations mainly in Spanish and Portuguese.
In addition, a number of workshops in Spanish are held, wherein regional
researchers discuss ongoing projects.

PAPER SUBMISSION

An extended abstract written in English of eight to ten typed pages,
including e-mail address and/or a fax number, 1.5 spaced, in no smaller
than 10 point font with 1 inch margins (left, right, top, bottom) should
be sent until June 6, 2005. The paper should be sent in PS or PDF format
by e-mail to

    [EMAIL PROTECTED]

More information please contact the Program Committee Chairs:

Mauricio Marin, [EMAIL PROTECTED] (Program Chair)

Marcelo Arenas, [EMAIL PROTECTED] (Co-Chair, Databases)

John Atkinson, [EMAIL PROTECTED] (Co-Chair, Artificial Intelligence)

Authors will be notified of acceptance or rejection via e-mail by July
25, 2005. The full versions of he accepted papers (camera-ready)
must be written in English, and will be due by August 25, 2005. The
proceedings will be published by IEEE CS Press as in previous versions
of the Int. SCCC Conference.
