I am happy to report that the final version of Prath's thesis has been submitted, and he is now officially graduated! Yippee! :)
You can find Prath's thesis on "Identifying Sets of Related Words from the World Wide Web" here: http://www.d.umn.edu/~tpederse/Pubs/prath-thesis.pdf Of course this work has been implemented in the GoogleHack package, which still amazes me sometimes at the results it produces. http://google-hack.sourceforge.net What I mean by that is that I understand the methods are relatively simple, yet the results are sometimes really quite impressive and intuitive at times. Prath did an excellent job with this topic, and I think in some respects it was a bit more difficult than other topics since it is something I don't know very much about and at times I could not provide much assistance on technical matters - and in fact with respect to the details of how to get information from the Web, I'm still a bit sketchy about how things like SOAP and so forth actually work. But, Prath did a very nice job with this, and is to be congratulated at putting together such an interesting tool and doing some very nice research and evaluation in the thesis. Well done!
