On Friday November 4, we will discuss the following paper by Ron Bekkerman ( http://www.cs.umass.edu/~ronb/ )
Automatic Categorization of Email into Folders: Benchmark Experiments on Enron and SRI Corpora. Joint work with A. McCallum and G. Huang. CIIR Technical Report IR-418 2004. http://www.cs.umass.edu/~ronb/papers/email.pdf This is about using the Enron corpus for email classification, so it's interesting to us both due to the nature of the data, and then the learning algorithms that are applied. In our case we are most interested in applying unsupervised clustering methods to the Enron corpus, but this paper discusses supervised methods, which should be particularly interesting given the focus of your grad class this semester. Apurva will be our discussion leader. So, please get a copy of this paper and start reading at your convenience. Remember we'll have a meeting on Oct 14 regarding a different paper/s, so don't overlook those papers - I juust wanted to get the agenda for the semester mostly laid out.
