Among other matters, Mahesh showed us the following Java applet which lets
us visualize SVMs :

http://www.site.uottawa.ca/~gcaron/SVMApplet/SVMApplet.html

This was very nice, and quite helpful. Also, we worked our way through the
Domain Kernels for WSD paper, and have come up with some questions for the
authors that Mahesh has communicated.

In terms of coming to understand the Domain Kernel for WSD paper, it seems
like some of the work on "Latent Semantic Kernels" is particularly
relevant, and might be helpful as background information. For example,
the following ICML-2001 paper seems quite central:

@inproceedings{ cristianini01latent,
    author = "Nello Cristianini and John Shawe-Taylor and Huma Lodhi",
    title = "Latent Semantic Kernels",
    booktitle = "Proceedings of {ICML}-01, 18th International Conference on
Machine Learning",
    publisher = "Morgan Kaufmann Publishers, San Francisco, US",
    address = "Williams College, US",
    editor = "Carla Brodley and Andrea Danyluk",
    pages = "66--73",
    year = "2001",
    url = "citeseer.ist.psu.edu/cristianini01latent.html" }

Enjoy,
Ted
