Good detective work Todd!! I appreciate the answer to my query, and in fact this shows that as useful as Google might be for would be plagiarists, it is also very helpful in detecting these sorts of shared sources. Good news for our side!
At the time of this case study I did use Google a bit to try and track down things like this, but I did not do it for every case I don't think. This might be partly because the emotional toll of dealing with these kinds of issues is just awful. It is tiring and stressful, because the guilty parties are almost always in full denial mode, and the will lie to your face unless confronted with absolute evidence of their guilt. Then they manage to find some excuse...It is shameful, really, but I guess it goes to show that people capable of plagiarism are also liars (and this should be no surprise). So, if you ever find yourself needing to confront a plagiarist, understand that they will almost *never* come out and admit what they have done, even when confronted with evidence of their misdeeds. But, despite all this, I know that the vast majority of students and researchers are on the right side of this issue, and that is what gives me considerable hope.
