*****Call for Participation*****
Within the framework of i2b2 (Informatics for Integrating Biology and
the Bedside) National Center for Biomedical Computing, the State
University of New York at Albany, MIT Computer Science and Artificial
Intelligence Laboratory, and Partners Healthcare System are pleased to
announce the First Shared Task for Challenges in Natural Language
Processing for Clinical Data.
Preregistration is now open!
The shared task will take place over summer and early fall; the
results will be presented at a workshop organized in conjunction with
the Fall symposium of AMIA in November 11-15, 2006, Washington, D.C.
The shared task will focus on two challenges: Automatic
deidentification of medical discharge summaries and identification of
the smoking status of patients based on their medical records. The
data for these challenges are provided by the Partners Healthcare
System. Data for the challenge problems will already have been
deidentified through a combination of machine and human processing,
but synthesized identifiers will have been reinserted to support the
de-identification challenge.
The full details of the challenges will be made available through the
registration site which is now open.
Participants are required to submit a short paper describing their
system and analyzing their performance; some participants will be
asked to present their systems at the workshop and their papers will
be considered for publication in a special issue of JAMIA.
