I wrote a Last Words column for Computational Linguistics entitled "Empiricism is not a Matter of Faith". It's set to appear in the Sept 2008 issue of Computational Linguistics. I try to make a case as to why releasing software is a good thing, and why it's not as hard to do as people think. I think most people believe releasing software is a good thing, but they also imagine it to be too difficult and/or not really worth their time. I try to argue against that state of mind. :)
