Correct meif I'm wrong, but I would assume the 3-core product is simply a 4-core cpu which had some kind of manufacturing defect in 1 core. Rather than throw the whole thing away or disable a perfectly good core to sell it as simply a dual-core, they charge a few bucks more and sell it as a triple core. And if their mfg process improves such that the number of defective cores is less than the demand for 3-core cpus, they can simply disable a core in an otherwise good 4-core package and sell it as 3-core.
