The intent of NLUG is really to support and promote the use of Free/Open Source software (FLOSS), of which Linux is one of the more prominent examples. At the time of founding, Linux really was the most prominent of such software, so it made sense to name the group that. An OS kernel, however, provides limited discussion topics for general consumption, and in consideration of that fact we've always had topics that varied greatly from just "linux". At this point, a lot of us use Mac OS X as our "base" for running such software, and often *BSD on the server. I also use Ubuntu as a server OS, also. Honestly, though, there is little difference on the server side between the various Unixes (which includes Linux) and they're mainly used as the base to run the actual application - an rdbms, web server, samba server, etc. Any of these operating systems should make a fine presentation for NLUG. Really, the operating system itself should rarely be of interest, but rather what applications can run on top of it to make it useful.
