YMax Communications Corporation currently has an opening for a Linux Administrator.
JOB DESCRIPTION: Performs a variety of complex assignments associated with managing and controlling Linux operating systems. Sets up and maintains more than one type of Linux environment. Analyzes system faults, troubleshoots, and runs diagnostic tests on operating systems and hardware to detect problems. Evaluates and installs developed software during various phases of testing. Reviews and prepares documentation for systems and tests and installs software. Recommends methods and techniques to be used for obtaining solutions. Initiates preventive maintenance on the operating systems as well as repair to system/environment problems. Administers and/or oversees systems/ environment solutions for multiple projects with varying schedules which are critical to the success of programs. Plans system/ environment requirements for individual projects. May participate in the creation/maintenance of the overall management plan. May provide work direction and technical guidance to others. Works on complex problems. May provide guidance to nonexempt personnel. Interacts with management on matters concerning several functional areas, divisions, and/or customers. May be responsible for the technical direction, leadership, and training of less experienced staff. DESIRED CERTIFICATIONS: · Linux Red Hat certification REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: · 3+ years of Linux systems administration experience. · A minimum of 2 years academic, professional or other experience with one or more flavors of Linux (4 years preferred). · Must be extremely comfortable with the installation, configuration and performance tuning of Linux. · Strong experience with Apache HTTP server. · Excellent Perl and/or shell scripting experience is required. · Programming and troubleshooting skills in C/C++ and/or Java a plus. · Experience with clustered or load-balanced environments a plus. · Strong understanding of networking; understanding of how to isolate, diagnose, and resolve service delivery components (service delivery components include servers, networks, and applications); be familiar with the functionality, operating, and failure modes of key networking devices (routers, switches, bridges, firewalls, hardware load balancers); be able to identify networking as the potential cause of a service issue using server-resident tools to generate this data (tcpdump, ping, traceroute, etc.); familiarity in interpreting the output of these tools; familiarity with common network topologies, protocols, and tools; have some notion of common network security exploits -- and their remedies; understanding of troubleshooting at the packet level. · Strong written communication skills are important, as this job will involve writing documentation. · Highly self-motivated; always looking for opportunities to make things better. --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "NLUG" group.
