The presentation is by the local chapter of the Society of Broadcast
Engineers (SBE) and is open to the public. The topic is about the Axia
IP audio system. Axia is designed for radio & TV stations (see
http://www.axiaaudio.com) and uses UDP packets over controlled
networks (i.e. local LAN). Locally, I know WRLT 100.1 and WAYM 88.7
use it and there are probably others. I've been out of radio
engineering long enough that what I wrote is about the extent of my
knowledge about it, other than it works very well.
The meeting is Thursday 09/03 at Noon at WAYM's studios at 1095 McEwen
Drive in the Cool Springs area. See http://tinyurl.com/SBE-WAY-FM for
directions.

Here is a cross-posting from the SBE Mailing List:

Society of Broadcast Engineers Chapter 103 Meeting Notice

Date: Thursday September 3, 2009 --- Lunch at 11:30 AM -- Meeting 12:00 Noon
Meeting Location: WAY-FM, 1095 West McEwen Drive, Franklin, TN
37067-1722 Phone: (615) 261-9293
Program: Planning, Building and Maintaining an IP-based Radio Facility

OVERVIEW:

The convergence of IT and radio broadcasting is upon us. Audio
routing, mixing and distribution via Internet Protocol - IP - have
become cost effective for both new installations and facility
upgrades. In fact, IP audio will likely be pervasive in the broadcast
plant within a very short time. Several manufacturers are embracing IP
audio technologies, giving rise to useful equipment and systems.

This IP audio workshop will cover what you need to know and
demonstrate how you can plan, implement, and maintain an IP audio
system in your facility. Learn how to design a system for redundancy
and convenient troubleshooting. Plus, hear from others' first-hand
experiences with IP audio implementation and maintenance.

Presenter: Kirk Harnack,
Executive Director, International Business Development, Telos / Omnia / Axia

Telos will provide our lunch at the meeting location.

GUESTS AND NON-MEMBERS WELCOME
