It's a number of things, all taken into account, if I could goto both I would (if I win the lottery, get a raise or otherwise find money to fund both, I will) & if I was to deciede based on which one is all planned out, or have proved that they can plan well before, SELF is an easy win. This is Self's 2nd year, a different city too, one I do not know
Rochester Fosscon is gonna be in it's first year, in a city I know more of (minimal, but more than this years location for SELF) it's not as much saying I was or wasn't impressed (I was, it's been my favorite fest, ATL is a close 2nd (out of two so far) I think the afterparty at SELF was what set it apart) as much as I want to support a new fest if I have to choose, if I don't have to choose, well I hope I don't have to choose, but I think I will, due to budget. It happens I have family & friends on the Main route from here to RIT (thus why I know a piece or two of Rochester) & I Liked swimming in the Great lakes as a kid, so there are some other factors, but if I didn't have those factors (& budget for each trip was close & reasonable) I think the decision would stay the same, if I can't goto both, try for the one I've not yet been to, if I had to pick between three & I'd been to one, aim for the newer one, to support it so it'll have better odds to make it to year two & three. I would recommend to anyone intrested (and am recommending here) that they goto SELF if they can, if it is anything like last year it'll be worth it.
