I have never had a problem with this before, but after upgrading our
Ubuntu production server from 8.10 to 10.04 by doing a fresh install,
I cannot seem to use ifup or ifdown on an alias that is set to DHCP.
'ifup' and 'ifdown' work just fine as long as I set a static IP.

We have a laptop running ubuntu server edition with DRBL installed in
order to perform multicast cloning. The laptop is vital for our
mobility. I was able to jerry rig it for the time being by assigning
the alias a static IP when needed, but it would be nice to have it
dynamically assigned instead.

We need ifup and ifdown to work so that the dhcp server does not
assign the alias an ip address, which tends to have the resul of
clonezilla freezing midway through partimage.

Alternatively I can use the alias as the DHCP server instead, if any
of you know how I could filter out the interface's MAC address in
order to prevent assigning the real interface an IP, especially
considering that drblpush will change the firewall settings if it is
ever used again to make changes to DRBL.
