I can get a Dell T110

One of the companies we work closely with sells their turnkey asterisk
PBXes on T110 (before that, T105s, then SC440).. They are *constantly*
having to replace those boxes in the field. If you're looking for
reliable stuff, I wouldn't really look at dell's entry-level servers.
While they do have some nice stuff in the $1k+ range, their T110s are crap.

The upside to that story is.. dell's support is pretty good, and if it
breaks within the warranty period, you get a brand new server on them.
So, depending on your needs, that may still be the way to go.

Warranty aside, though.. If you're looking for something that absolutely
has to be reliable for under $500.. consider buying a used hp proliant
or ibm xseries server.. heck, maybe even some old sun hardware. The
aforementioned are carrier grade and designed to last.
