My cubicle mate listens to a local radio station called WGNS everyday that has a segment called Ron.com by Ron Jordan. Yesterdays topic was here: http://www.wgnsradio.com/category/news-traffic-mp3-tab/ (click on the Ron.com) with Ron Jordan. He pretty much summarizes don't waist your time trying Linux. I felt I could not let this stand so I fired off an email which I include below: ".. I work at NHC and have a cubicle mate that listens to your station constantly. I heard a blurb a few moments ago from a Brian (I think) that might be you( or not). Perhaps you can put me in touch with the right one. Anyway he mentioned something about HelpDesk (not sure if that a show or commercial ) and derided the difficulty of running Linux rather than windows. If it is a show I would love to know so I can call in and set the facts straight. Linux has been a hobby of mine since around 2000. I am part of the Nashville Linux Users Group (NLUG) and have been working with Linux professionally for about 7 years now. While I agree that in the past it was definitely only a hobbyist operating system, that time is no longer. Both my parents and my wife happily use their linux installed computers to browse the internet with out risk of viruses and they are computer illiterate. I gave far more "tech support" calls when the computers were running windows. Now they just work. I use a very popular user friendly distro that has taken the linux world by storm the past few years called Ubuntu. If you can get used to using an android phone (linux) then you can use ubuntu intuitively without much trouble. It has a way to install programs like the all too common "App store". In any case just my opinion and one of my passions. Thanks, -- Ben Hicks Unix Administrator .."
I know I could make a much better email than this, but I was writing off the cuff and didn't think too much about it. Anyway just thought I would share. I doubt he will reply though the station manager did reply to tell me he forwarded my email on to him. -Ben -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "NLUG" group.
