Curt is being 'modern' by remembering to do /etc/shadow also :)

I have seen adduser and useradd commands.  This is a command I found
that the oracle
of all knowlege (Google) relaed to CentOS

    useradd -d /home/bobsmith -s /bin/bash -c "Bob Smith" bobsmith
passwd bobsmith

Might man useradd or adduser to see what you get.
