SR Systems Engineer – Nashville (CTB)

CTB, a division of McGraw-Hill Education, has an exciting opportunity
for a SR Systems Engineer with high-level problem solving abilities,
to identify problems and assist with developing a solution. Position
is located at our Nashville, TN site.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for providing management and
leadership for a team of Server Engineering resources. You will
present technical recommendations to the Director and Server
Engineering regarding server technology, assessing short and long term
implications for selected solutions (strategic versus tactical). You
will collaborate with corresponding server tower in the run
organization to ensure engineering designs are supportable by the
Server Operations team and with Solutions Engineering teams to provide
product engineering expertise to new projects.

Responsibilities:
Develop product lifecycle for identified server technology products
Interpret industry trends; identify and introduce new products to meet
business trends and demand, analyzing impact and integration of new
products
Work with business segments to identify current issues and emerging needs
Manage, refresh and optimize the product catalog
Steer new products through discovery, testing and approvals process
for adoption including the preparation and presentation of design,
build, presentation and architectural materials
Develop reference architectures and implementation standards; develop
Operating Level Agreements, while ensuring alignment to Service Level
Agreements
Maintain vendor relationships
Develop and implement complex monitoring schemes utilizing
NAGIOS
KeyNote
Develop run books to meet Operational handover requirements, ensuring
quality and content standards are met
Develop disaster recovery plans
Develop high availability infrastructure plans
Provide support to the Solutions Engineering team towards designing
solutions to meet project requirements.
Coach, develop and mentor high skilled infrastructure engineers;
manage resource allocation
Oversee Level 3 Engineering Support for Production Support
Report on cost reduction opportunities; direct projects to rationalize
product footprint in the enterprise
Develop and manage a budget

Essential Skills:
Bachelor's Degree in computer-related field or equivalent experience.
Significant expertise/experience in BASH-shell scripting (expert level.)
8+ years defining, designing and deploying business application
infrastructures with internal/external customer focus.
8+ years’ expertise specifying changes, deploying environments, and
optimizing configurations, with RedHat/CentOS/Fedora Linux, Apache
HTTPd Server, and Tomcat.
Research, development and implementation of new product technologies;
design and optimization of operating platforms for multiple function.
Architecture and design experience for server systems infrastructure
technologies
SME in the following server-related technologies.
Apache HTTPd server (required)
Tomcat (required)
Cloud computing
Strong problem solving and root cause analysis skills.
Solid experience with product testing, prototyping proof of concept
and migration issues, problems and considerations.
Employ Project Management skills to translate vision and deliverables to team.
Exceptional verbal communication and presentation delivery skills.
Strong vendor management specifically with vendor engineering/product
development.
Reporting and metric production and utilization.
Technology competencies include: Server Clustering, installation and
configuration (Racking, cabling equipment); Hardware Configurations,
Local/Geographical Load Balancing; Remote Access (DRAC and ILO);
Server Monitoring; Server Replication Strategies, Disaster Recovery /
High Availability Design.
