Thanks to all for the replies.  I like the linux answer in general to
use a 'virtual sound card', but I might go
with Curt's solution since I don't know what OSes I will toss in the
frey at this point.  One of the inputs
is from a 'guest' machine that I plug in when needed to fix problems
from others, and those seem to often
be winders of some flavor or another.
