If DIY NAS is your thing, Backblaze has version 3.0 of their hardware
build available

http://blog.backblaze.com/2013/02/20/180tb-of-good-vibrations-storage-pod-3-0

Summary:
180T in a 4U system. 45 4T drives
1 or 2 small drives for redundant boot and volumes
cost reduction (other than bulk 4T drives)

There were several design changes, partly due to technology updates
and vendor changes.
The section on 'what we have learned' is redundant from our knowledge
of beating our heads
against the walls for a number of years, but it is nice to see the
lessons have not gone to
waste, and are still relvaent.

They also reduced the price (sans big drives) of the base
system/chassis by 1.9%. Not much
but anything helps when working on this kind of stuff.

Still a good read.
