A lot of the video footage of the recent Russian meteor came from dashboard cameras in personal cars. According to a news article I read at the time, such cameras have become a popular car accessory there, because of corrupt police demanding cash "fines" for non-existent traffic offenses, and because many Russian insurance companies refuse to pay car-accident claims unless you have a video recording of the accident. The article didn't describe how the insurance companies handle being back-ended by a hit-and-run driver. -- John F.
