You can disable it, but it's not just the sysctl. I just don't have a refernece box at the moment because I fixed my ip6 a while back, but i have run into this before and it is possible to deal with.
Ok next, try adding the below line in /etc/sysconfig/network NETWORKING_IPV6=no And be sure to verify you're still trying to connect via ipv6.
